What Is the IMVU Black Market? The Complete Guide for 2026
What the IMVU Black Market (BM) is, what you can buy there, how it differs from AP catalog items, how delivery works and how to buy without getting burned.
The IMVU Black Market (usually shortened to IMVU BM) is the name players give to IMVU items that are sold outside the official IMVU Shop. Most of it is adult content the catalog does not carry: realistic rooms full of couple poses, body add-ons with dozens of animated actions (called triggers), long pose packs and furniture. You pay a seller on their own website, and the item is delivered to your IMVU account.
I have been selling IMVU products for more than ten years, and the same questions come up every week: what exactly is BM, is it safe, will it work on my phone, and how do I avoid scammers. This guide answers all of them in one place, and links to deeper guides where a topic needs more space.
Where the name comes from
IMVU has a huge official catalog, and adults with Access Pass (AP) can see millions of extra items in it. But there are limits on what creators can publish there. Over the years, an unofficial market grew around the content that does not fit those limits. Players started calling it the black market because it lives outside IMVU’s own shop, not because it has anything to do with stolen goods or crime.
Today “IMVU BM”, “black market IMVU” and “BM rooms” all mean the same thing: adult IMVU content you buy from an independent seller.
What you can buy on the IMVU Black Market
Most BM shops, including ours, organize their products into the same handful of categories:
- Rooms. Fully decorated spaces (apartments, mansions, clubs, themed rooms) with built-in pose spots. The selling point is the number and quality of poses, from 10 to more than 100 in a single room.
- Triggers. Body add-ons that respond to words you type in chat, each one starting a different animation or action. Listings usually tell you how many actions are included. Our guide to IMVU triggers explains how they work.
- Poses and pose packs. Individual pose furniture or bundles of 10 to 40 poses you can drop into any room you already own.
- Furniture. Single pieces and bundles to build your own room around.
- Bundles. A room plus a trigger, or several rooms together, at a lower price than buying each one.
- Upgrades and warranty. Some shops also sell VIP and extended warranties that replace an item if it ever disappears.
BM items vs AP catalog items
Both are adult content, so people often confuse them. The difference is where they come from and what they are allowed to show.
| AP catalog items | Black Market items | |
|---|---|---|
| Where you buy | Inside the IMVU Shop | On an independent seller’s website |
| How you pay | IMVU Credits | Real money (card, PayPal and others, depending on the seller) |
| Reviewed by IMVU | Yes | No |
| Content | Adult, within IMVU’s AP rules | Content the catalog does not allow |
| If an item is removed | Handled by IMVU | Handled by the seller’s warranty |
| Account requirement | AP (18+, age verified) | 18+; AP strongly recommended |
That last row is important. Since IMVU does not review BM items, it does not protect them either. If an item is ever removed from your inventory, the only safety net is the seller’s warranty. That is why choosing the seller matters more than choosing the item.
How buying a BM item works
The process is similar in every serious shop:
- Pick the item and check that it is labeled for the device you use (mobile, PC, or both).
- Check out on the seller’s site. At Black Market VU you do not need to create an account to buy. Use a Gmail address if you can, because some providers such as Hotmail tend to block delivery emails.
- Receive the item. We send orders right after payment, usually the same day.
- Use it in private. BM items are meant for private rooms with people you know, not for public rooms. This one habit is the biggest factor in keeping your items, and your account, safe.
Prices at a glance
At the time of writing, rooms in our shop start around $20 and the large 100-pose mansions go above $100. Single triggers start under $30, and the most complete sets cost more. Prices change with promotions, so always check the listing.
Is the IMVU Black Market safe?
There are two separate risks, and it helps to keep them apart.
The risk of losing money comes from the seller. Fake shops that disappear after payment, sellers who only exist in Discord DMs, and suspiciously cheap copies that get removed within days. You avoid this by buying from a shop with a real website, public reviews and clear warranty terms. Our checklist on how to choose a trustworthy IMVU BM seller walks through every red flag.
The risk to your account comes from how you use the item. IMVU does not authorize BM content, and it can remove items or suspend accounts, especially when adult content shows up in public spaces. In more than ten years we have seen that buyers who keep items private rarely run into problems, but no honest seller can promise zero risk. We explain what actually gets accounts in trouble in Can you get banned for using IMVU BM items?
Do you need AP for the Black Market?
You should be 18 or older, full stop. Beyond that, Access Pass is strongly recommended: it is IMVU’s own adult tier, it opens AP-only rooms and actions, and it makes your account the kind of account adult content is expected on. AP is a one-time purchase. Our complete guide to IMVU AP covers the price and every step to get it.
Mobile, PC or both?
IMVU runs on phones, on the desktop app and in the browser, and not every BM item behaves the same everywhere. Good sellers label this clearly. In our shop you will see categories such as “Rooms (PC and Mobile)” and listings that say which platforms a trigger supports. If a listing does not say, ask before you buy.
A quick BM glossary
- AP (Access Pass): IMVU’s 18+ tier, unlocked with age verification.
- GA (General Audience): content and rooms visible to everyone. BM items do not belong there.
- Trigger: a word you type in chat to start an action on an item you are wearing.
- Pose room: a room with built-in pose spots for one, two or more avatars.
- Warranty: the seller’s promise to replace an item if it is removed within a set period.
- Derive: building a new product on top of an existing one in IMVU’s creator tools. BM buyers should never derive from or resell BM items.

Go to the shopThe bottom line
The IMVU Black Market is where adults go for the IMVU content the official catalog does not carry. It is worth it if you buy from a seller with a real track record, check that the item fits your device, and keep what you buy in private rooms. Start with the guide that matches your next question: AP, triggers, ban risk or choosing a seller.
Frequently asked questions
What does BM mean on IMVU?
BM stands for Black Market. It is the name players use for IMVU items sold outside the official IMVU Shop, mostly adult rooms, triggers, poses and body add-ons that the regular catalog does not offer.
Is the IMVU Black Market illegal?
Buying BM items is not a crime, but it is not authorized by IMVU either. IMVU can remove items it finds and act against accounts, so the real question is account risk, not legality. Our guide on ban risk explains how to keep that risk low.
Do I need Access Pass (AP) to use BM items?
BM content is adult, so you should be 18+ and we recommend having AP. AP also gives you access to AP-only rooms and actions, which is where most adult content on IMVU is meant to be used.
Do BM items work on IMVU mobile?
Many do. Check each listing: at Black Market VU every room and trigger is labeled for mobile, PC or both.
How fast is delivery?
At Black Market VU orders are sent right after payment and usually arrive the same day.
